As a local Chicago-area chapter of SHRM, the Northwest Human Resources Council (NHRC) exists to unite HR professionals for the purpose of sharing expertise and creating innovative solutions to human resource challenges.

Professional Development

Professional Development Events & Round Tables - Held monthly and available at a discounted rate, these popular meetings provide an opportunity to explore timely topics delivered by dynamic speakers…not to mention a great opportunity to network with your peers during a great meal! Opportunities to Get Involved

Volunteers are always welcome! You can share your expertise and talents in a variety of ways:

  • Student Mentor Program – A great way to “give back”, the mentor program is designed to help guide college students to become future HR leaders.

  • Peer Coaching Program 
  • Committee Participation – Visit our Volunteer Opportunities page or email the Council Office for questions or contact information for any of the following committees:

    • Certification - The Certification Committee can answer questions on what it takes to become certified. The committee also keeps members apprised of meetings and conferences in the area to keep your HRCI and SHRM certification current.

    • Communications - The Communications Committee works with other committees in developing the best form of communications for our members to provide effective and consistent communication.

    • Community Relations – The Community Relations committee coordinates any local activities concerning Human Resource related issues in the community. Coordinates book, food, clothing and toy drives at our General Meetings throughout the year. We will also coordinate any job training or job preparation activities for our membership.

    • Membership - The Membership Committee is instrumental in retaining current members, keeping the pulse on the needs of the membership as well as developing ways to attract new members.

    • Professional Development - The Professional Development Committee coordinates the Mentor Program for HR students at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb and Roosevelt University, Schaumburg. Students are matched with NHRC members to learn the skills of their chosen profession.

    • Programs - The Program Committee meets during the summer to develop and plan the programs for the upcoming council year, which runs from September through June. Committee members volunteer to obtain a speaker for a meeting and then coordinate with the council office for the general speaker meeting announcement.
